Why does it develop and how can laser hair removal help with it?
Ingrown hairs occur when a growing hair does not reach the surface of the skin properly, but instead continues to grow beneath the skin or curls back and burrows back into the skin.
It most often appears in the intimate area, bikini line, armpits, legs, and in men around the neck and beard. The affected area may also develop small red bumps, itching, sensitivity or painful inflammation. Regularly recurring ingrown hairs can leave brown spots over time, and less often scarring.
What causes hair to grow in?
Strong, thick or curly hairs are particularly prone to ingrown hairs, as they more easily turn back towards the skin as they grow.

It is not worth squeezing or removing the ingrown hair with a needle, as this can further damage the skin, lead to infection, and even permanent pigment spots.
Regular, gentle exfoliation and proper shaving technique can reduce the frequency of ingrown hairs, but they will not eliminate the new hair growth that causes the problem.

How does laser hair removal improve it?
Laser hair removal can be an effective solution for skin prone to ingrown hairs because it targets one of the most important root causes of the problem: regrowing hairs.
The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The heat generated specifically damages the formulas responsible for hair growth, so during the treatment series:
the number of regrowing hairs gradually decreases;
the remaining strands may become thinner and weaker;
it is necessary to shave less often;
irritation associated with hair removal may be reduced;
fewer hairs can curl back and grow into the skin.
The laser does not immediately eliminate existing inflammation. By permanently reducing hair, it reduces the chance of new ingrowths and inflamed hair follicles developing.
